How do I oepn a a file with the FIT/FTS extension?
Views: 3785 Last Updated: 2011-05-27 20:34

The FITS format is almost exclusively used for astronomy images. Concumer image editing programs, and even most professional programs like Photoshop, do not support opening FITS files.

On the other hand, FITS files are commonly supported by the programs used to control astronomy cameras: MaxIm DL, CCDSoft, PixInsight, etc. For best results, we strongly suggest you work with FITS files using an astronomy-oriented program.

it is possible to use a NASA program, FITS Liberator, to do minor editing and to convert FITS files to TIFF format so that you can edit them in Photoshop or other image editing software.
